Description: Join Eagleton for a conversation with Professor Saladin Ambar, John Raidt, former Congressional Staff Director, and Ivan Schlagner, former Democratic Staff Director, about their pathways to a career in public service. Register to join via Zoom on Wednesday April 12th at 12 p.m.
This event is presented as part of the Albert W. Lewitt Endowed Lecture Series, an annual lecture delivered by a current or former Member of Congress, a congressional staffer, or an expert on Congress. The series was established in memory of Albert W. Lewitt who worked on Capitol Hill in the 1940s.
John Raidt
Mr. John Raidt is a former congressional staff director for Senator McCain; he served on the 9/11 Commission and is the author of Politics Inc. Raidt served as the Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
Ivan Schlagner
Mr. Ivan Schlager is the senior attorney at Kirkland and Ellis, he served as the Democratic staff director of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation under Senator Fritz Hollings and worked with many other Democratic notables, including Senator John Kerry.
About the moderator:
Dr. Ambar is a Senior Scholar at Eagleton’s Center on the American Governor and Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. He is the author of four books, including Malcolm X at Oxford Union: Racial Politics in a Global Era (Oxford University Press), which was nominated for a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award for best non-fiction book written by an African American author.
