Statement on the Passing of Former New Jersey Governor James J. Florio

September 26, 2022 – The Center on the American Governor at Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics sends our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of the late former New Jersey Governor James J. Florio.

During his term, Florio worked to pass landmark policies on the environment, energy, health and welfare, urban economic development, education funding, and gun control. Florio served as governor from 1990 to 1994 and was at the center of New Jersey public and civic life throughout the years that followed.
