T. Missy Balmir

For close to 20 years, T. Missy Balmir has worked for many of New Jersey’s political leaders at the state, federal and municipal level. Missy has worked as a political operative on nearly every statewide election in NJ for the past 15 years. She worked as the Political Director for former Congressman Rush Holt as well as African American Base Vote Program Director for the Victory 2014/Booker for Senate Campaign, the Buono for Governor Campaign in 2013 and the Victory 2012 and 2018/Menendez for Senate Campaign. Most recently, she served as a Senior Adviser to NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney. In 2013, Missy launched her Political Consulting Firm, Thorough Planning, LLC. Missy is currently Senior Outreach Advisor to U.S. Senator Bob Menendez and Co-Chair of the NJ Democratic State Committee Black Caucus. Ms. Balmir has also held the position of Assistant Commissioner of Operations at the state’s Department of Human Services and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs in the Office of the Governor in the Corzine administration. Her other government experience includes Senior Aide to former Mayor Douglas Palmer in the City of Trenton and Chief of Staff for former East Orange Mayor, Lester E. Taylor. Missy served on the City of Trenton School Board for six years and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A proud graduate of Trenton Central High School, she also graduated from Rider University with a degree in Political Science; holds a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs and Politics from Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and was a Graduate Fellow at the Eagleton Institute of Politics.
