B. Thomas Byrne, Jr.

Tom Byrne’s career has bridged politics, finance and law. He is currently chairman of the state investment council, which oversees about $70 billion in public pension money. He recently served on a gubernatorial commission charged with coming up with a plan to fix the underfunded status of the state’s pension system. He served two terms as chairman of the Democratic Party in New Jersey from 1994 through mid-1997.

Byrne runs an investment advisory business with offices in Princeton and New York.  He is a trustee and treasurer of The Fund for New Jersey, a leading public policy-oriented philanthropy. He served as a trustee of Isles, Inc., a community development organization in Trenton. Years ago, he served on the staff of the Brady Task Force, which reported to President Reagan after the 1987 stock market crash. Byrne graduated from Princeton University, served on the graduate advisory board of the Woodrow Wilson School, and received his JD from Fordham Law School.
