Eagleton Fellows Get Behind-the-Scenes Insights at NJ State House

This month, the 2026 cohorts of Eagleton Graduate Fellows and Science and Politics Fellows experienced our state government in action during a legislative day at the State House led by Eagleton’s Director of Education and Strategic Initiatives, Ginger Schnitzer. The group got a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the legislature on a busy session day during lame duck.  They followed the path of legislation through caucus and committee rooms all the way through the General Assembly and Senate chambers. A highlight of the day was spending an hour talking about the rich opportunities in government service with seven members of Governor Murphy’s staff. The student also enjoyed one-on-one time with New Jersey’s State Treasurer Liz Muoio. Along the way, the fellows witnessed committee meetings, met with leaders of the legislature and partisan offices, lobbyists, and many Rutgers/Eagleton alumni who work in and around government. An exciting and engaging experience for all, the opportunity expanded students’ professional networks and expertise in how government works and how to work it.
