Panelists

T. Missy Balmir In addition to her extensive political experience, Balmir is a seasoned government official. She has served as assistant commissioner of operations at the NJ Department of Human Services, director of intergovernmental affairs in the Office of the Governor in the Corzine administration, as well as the chief of staff to East Orange Mayor Lester E. Taylor, business administrator in Hamilton Township under Mayor Jeff Martin, and senior outreach advisor to U.S. Senator Bob Menendez.

David Cruz – Senior Political Correspondent/Anchor. Cruz is the moderator of Chat Box and Reporters Roundtable. He’s been a member of the NJ Spotlight News team since 2011 and has been covering New Jersey’s biggest stories for almost 30 years. He’s been a reporter and moderator of public affairs programs on television, radio and digital platforms for WBGO and WNYC radio and is the former editor in chief of the Hudson Reporter Newspaper group.

Julia Sass Rubin
Julia Sass Rubin – Julia Sass Rubin has been part of the faculty of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy since 2003.  Dr. Rubin has advised a number of organizations, including the United States Small Business Administration; The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; the Appalachian Regional Commission; the Overseas Private Investment Corporation; and the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority.  Prior to joining the Bloustein School faculty, Dr. Rubin was a post-doctoral fellow at the Alfred A. Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University. Dr. Rubin earned her PhD and MA from Harvard University, an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School, and an AB with honors from Harvard-Radcliffe College.

 

Moderator

Kris Shields
– Assistant Research Professor; Director, Eagleton Center on the American Governor. Kris is a historian and Director of the Eagleton Center on the American Governor (CAG). He helps build and maintain the Center’s archives on New Jersey governors and researches and analyzes the office of the governor in a national context. He frequently writes for the Center’s website and is co-author of From Candidate to Governor-Elect: Recommendations for Gubernatorial Transitions.
